Foreword:

Therearemomentsinlifethatweneverforget,andforme,oneofthosemomentshappenedinthefifthgrade.ItwastheyearwhenImetmyfavoriteteacher,MissEmily.Shewasthekindofteacherwhoalwayshadasmileonherfaceandakindwordforeveryone.Sheencouragedmetobemybestself,anditwasunderherguidancethatIdiscoveredmyloveforwriting.SowhenIheardthatshewasretiring,IknewIhadtodosomethingtoshowherhowmuchshemeanttome.Andthat'swhenIdecidedtowriteheraletter.

Iremembersittingdownatmydeskwithablanksheetofpaperinfrontofme,tryingtoputintowordshowgratefulIwasforeverythingMissEmilyhaddoneforme.Itwasn'teasy-howdoyouthanksomeoneforchangingyourlife?Buteventually,thewordsstartedtoflow,andbeforeIknewit,Ihadfilledseveralpageswithmythoughtsandfeelings.

WhenIfinishedtheletter,Isealeditinanenvelopeandbroughtittoschoolthenextday.AsIwalkeddownthehallwaytowardsMissEmily'sclassroom,myheartwaspoundingwithexcitementandnerves.Whatifshedidn'tliketheletter?Whatifitwasn'tgoodenough?

Yearswentby,andImovedontomiddleschool,highschool,andthencollege.ButIneverforgotaboutMissEmily.Herwordsofencouragementstayedwithme,guidingmethroughtheupsanddownsoflife.
